The Rights for Safer Roads for Pedestrians in Indonesia - Case Study: The Walkability Index in Three Metropolitan Along the Bus Rapid Transit Lanes

Walking from one point to another is part of everyday human life. In outdoor conditions, pedestrians should walk on pedestrian facilities such as sidewalks, zebra crossings, pedestrian bridges both above and below the road, and so on. As part of mobility, pedestrians also have the same rights as road users who use motorized and non-motorized vehicles. Traffic data shows that road accidents often involve pedestrians and motorized vehicles. WHO estimates that 23% of traffic accidents that cause fatalities involve pedestrians. Although the Government of Indonesia does not yet have exact figures regarding the number of pedestrian victims per year, it is realized that one of the causes of accidents involving pedestrians is the inadequate condition of pedestrian facilities. Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation has mandated that every road used for public traffic must have road equipment such as facilities for pedestrians and people with disabilities/disabilities. The second pillar of the 5 Pillars of Road Safety Action Action in RUNK LLAJ states that Infrastructure (Safer Road) has a target of increasing safety through protecting the quality of the road network for the benefit of all road users, especially the most vulnerable, namely pedestrians, bicycles and bicycles, motorcycle.
